Besides the iPhone 16, what else can we expect to be announced at the September 9 event?

Apple has officially confirmed that it will host its annual fall event on Monday, September 9. The main attraction of the event will be the eagerly awaited launch of the new flagship iPhone 16 lineup. However, the iPhones aren't the only stars of the show. In keeping with tradition, Apple is also likely to introduce a variety of other products, including new Apple Watches, upgraded AirPods, and possibly even a refreshed iPad mini.

Let’s delve into what we can expect at Apple’s September 9 event, aside from the iPhone 16 series. One of the most highly anticipated reveals is the Apple Watch Series 10. This next-generation Apple Watch marks the 10th anniversary of the device, so it’s expected to bring some major upgrades. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new Apple Watch will feature a slimmer design with larger displays, moving from the current 41mm and 45mm sizes to 45mm and 49mm cases. The 49mm size will align with the current Apple Watch Ultra, making it the new “large” option, while the 45mm model will become the smallest standard size.

Apple is also rumored to significantly upgrade the watch’s internal components. The next-generation model might use resin-coated copper, allowing for a thinner logic board, which could create more space for other components, possibly enhancing durability and water resistance.

There were also reports suggesting that Apple might introduce new health features like hypertension and sleep apnea detection. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, these features will have to wait, as Apple isn’t ready to roll them out yet due to reliability concerns and patent issues.

This year, Apple is also anticipated to release the 3rd generation Apple Watch Ultra 3, following up on the Ultra 2 launched last year. However, the new Ultra Watch is expected to see minimal hardware changes. While the new model could feature a processor building on last year’s S9 chip and possibly include AI capabilities, its design is expected to remain mostly unchanged. Gurman suggests that the new Apple Watch Ultra will have “roughly the same look as the original.”

There were also rumors about a microLED display for better brightness and battery efficiency. However, Apple has reportedly delayed these plans. Instead, it’s speculated that Apple will introduce low-energy OLED panel technology to the new Apple Watch models to help reduce battery usage during the always-on display mode.

For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, the third-generation Apple Watch SE is rumored to see some noteworthy upgrades, including a larger display with 41mm and 45mm case sizes, matching those of the Apple Watch Series 8. According to research analyst David Hsieh, the new Watch SE is expected to offer about 12 percent more display area than the current SE model.
